It means that they are supported by the most popular synthesizers, sound modules, sound cards and other hardware devices on the market. The used hardware is critical for the sound quality of the MIDI files. One and same file could sounds in very different way on different synthesizers. Many of the sound cards on the market don’t support all the features of the standard MIDI files too, so you will be unable to hear all the details.
